2022 Summer Trip
Our family of four traveled on our 1983 Catalina 30 Tall Ship this summer for 23 days! During our voyage, we traveled nearly 350 nautical miles.

While our boat didn’t provide us all with separate rooms, we made it work and had a great time. The kids took over the v-berth while Chris and Alison transformed the table into a berth each night.
During our passages moving north, we enjoyed stops at Muskegon, Pentwater, Manistee, and Frankfort. When heading south for home, we stopped at Ludington, Pentwater, Muskegon, and finally, our home port in Holland, MI.
When we weren’t exploring outside, we also played card games!
On rainy days, we enjoyed playing Nintendo games and reading books. Whenever we weren’t out sailing or hiding from the rain, we enjoyed exploring the towns around us on foot.

Frankfort was one of our favorite stops, and it offered us a library card for the few days we stayed in town. It was great to anchor nearby and get to dinghy in for new books to enjoy! The town was lovely, and we made several great friends there.
The Frankfort Light stood watch as Ewan and Gwynnie had the beach almost to themselves one late afternoon!
No sooner did we drop the hook when getting into our anchorage at Frankfort, a forecasted storm blew in! Our Mantus anchor held tight and we were safe and sound despite the blowing wind and rain!

We also visited some great sites while traveling. We toured the U.S.S. Silversides, a World War II submarine, and its museum in Muskegon. We also toured lighthouses in Muskegon and Ludington.
This trip solidified our love for sailing and opened our eyes to the many future adventures for our family. We feel so fortunate to live this life and share it with you. Thanks for tagging along!
